Founded in London in 1987, The British Institute of Homeopathy Ltd is dedicated to the development of classical and modern homeopathy by distance learning and classroom study through internationally recognised teachers. Terms of Reference
The Academic Board is responsible for:


"Advising the Principal on the standards, planning, co-ordination, development and oversight of the academic work of the institution, including objectives, arrangements for the admission, assessment and examination of students and the procedures for the failing of students for academic reasons.

Aims and Objectives


A. Courses and Students


1. To establish and ensure compliance with a Code of Academic Standards for approved courses run by BIH.
2. To comment on the appropriateness and standard of syllabuses of all courses.
3. To draw up detailed learning needs and objectives for every study programme, defining what the graduate should be able to do on their completion.
4. To carry our regular reviews and evaluation and upgrading, updating and settling quality standards for all courses and ensure the aims and objectives are met.
5. To check the setting and monitoring of final examination papers from students of all courses.
6. Validation of continuous assessment procedures.
7. To monitor the organisation and effectiveness of practical work and clinical training.
8. To continually improve distance learning methodology and keep pace with technological advances.
9. Setting minimum entrance standards for students to appropriate courses.


B. Staff


10. To check, on appointment, the qualifications, competence and quality of BIH Tutors assigned to students.
11. Encourage all teaching staff to undertake work that keeps them abreast of developments in their field.
12. To produce and develop `Guidelines for Tutors' to ensure their effectiveness and consistency between them.
13. To maintain internal processes for continuous self-evaluation and appraisal of all BIH teaching staff via student feedback and results.
14. To participate in the accreditation of BIH courses, indicating improvements that may be required to secure a favourable recommendation.
15. To liaise with the British Institute Research Council in matters of common interest.
16. To participate in the work of the CHC and CORH to secure national registration of all trained BIH practitioners.
17. To make recommendations to the Principal for best students and honoury awards of Fellowship for services to Homeopathy.
